How and when should I leave my part-time job?
Question by Ramy: How and when should I leave my part-time job?
I have been working for 3 months and started 1st year university. I attended my last lecture of the semester yesterday and exams start on Friday, Dec. 8. However, my employer (a large retail department store) wants me to work many hours over the next two weeks, which will not leave me much time to study for my upcoming exams.
My next shifts are: Wednesday night & Saturday night. I thought it would be reasonable to drop a resignation letter either today or tomorrow before my shift on wendesday, then attend the shift on wednesday and indicate in my letter my services will not be available for the Saturday night shift and for the future.
Is 4 days notice enough? I am still in the probationary 90 days in which i can be fired whenever they like. I do not have a copy of my employment contract, but i don’t think there is any legal matter involved.
Please give me your opinion: is dropping a letter of resignation to my manager and giving them 4 days notice sufficient to leave my job?

Normally 2 weeks is the standard, but since its only a part time job AND you have exams coming up which are way more important and they won’t give you the time off, then i say four days is fine.
Good Luck on your exams
