Question by M Devil: What does a value of a forward contract mean?
I understand what a forward (and futures) contract is but what I fail to understand is why we value it? What’s the main purpose of valuing a contract? I know it can have a positive or negative value but we don’t make money from it (or do we?).. so whats the point of knowing what the value of the forward contract is?

Depending on how the underlying matter changes price, affects whether the forward contract is showing a profit or a loss. Thus you value it to see what it is now worth.
